The fifth diplomatic presence in India will open this month with the consulate general in Bengaluru.
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that India will open a consulate in Brisbane as part of efforts by the two nations to strengthen bilateral ties, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese declared on Wednesday that Australia will now open a new consulate general in Bengaluru this month.
Prime Minister Albanese said that the establishment of the new diplomatic presence in Bengaluru will assist connect the country’s enterprises to India’s thriving digital and innovation ecosystem in a statement to the media following discussions with Prime Minister Modi today.
The fifth diplomatic presence in India will open this month with the consulate general in Bengaluru. Others are located in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, etc.
There are now three consulates for India, one each in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. There is currently an honorary Indian consulate in Brisbane.
“Expanding Australia’s diplomatic presence to Bengaluru will strengthen our expanding ties in science and technology and connect Australian companies to India’s thriving digital economy and innovation ecosystem. The establishment of an Indian consulate general in Brisbane was hailed by Prime Minister Albanese.
“My ministers are visiting India on a regular basis for the G20 discussions,” he continued, “which have covered the full range of portfolios which are there.”
The MoUs on mobility, migration, and the green hydrogen task force were also exchanged by the two leaders.
It says a lot about the bond between Australia and India that Albanese also mentioned his meeting with Modi after a year.
