Bengal Violence: Hooghly Situation Under Control, Prohibitory Orders In Effect
3 April, Rishra/Shibpur (WB) (PTI) The condition in violence-hit Rishra and Serampore in Hooghly district is quiet and under control, police said on Monday, despite prohibitory orders and the suspension of internet services in some areas.
According to a senior officer with the Chandannagore Police Commissionerate, around 12 people were arrested in connection with the clashes that erupted on Sunday evening during a Ram Navami procession between two groups.
“Everything is under control and peaceful. Prohibition orders are in effect, as are heavy police deployments. For a limited time, markets were permitted to open. “We are also monitoring vehicle movement,” he told PTI.
According to the officer, security forces conducted route marches in areas of the district where there was violence on Sunday.
“There was some tension in the morning.” “We, on the opposite hand, distributed the mass of people and additional security,” he said.
“Ideally, the circumstance will improve further in the afternoon.” “After evaluation, a choice on rescinding flagrantly unconstitutional orders and resuming online services will be made,” the officer added.
Two Ram Navami parades were structured in the Rishra police station area, and the 2nd one was attacked near Wellington Jute Mill More on GT Road around 6.15 p.m. on Sunday, according to police.
Prohibitory orders were issued under CrPC Section 144 in Rishra wards 1-5 and Serampore ward 24, and internet providers were stopped in some parts of the district until 10 p.m. on Monday, according to officials.
