Shark Tank’s premise:
The show’s premise is quite simple. It features self-made multi-millionaires called ‘sharks’. They are possible investors for a variety of business presentations. The presentations are given by aspiring entrepreneurs who appear on the show to promote their business or product. The entrepreneurs demand a monetary payment in exchange for a percentage of the company’s equity. If the sharks are impressed with the pitch, product, and overall valuation of the company, they may consider investing. The sharks put their own money at risk. However, the sharks almost always find flaws or weaknesses in the business model, valuation, or product itself. If all of the shark’s decline, the entrepreneurs must walk away empty-handed.
The show’s concept is interesting because of the tension and drama of pitch meetings, as well as the various kinds of relationships between the sharks and entrepreneurs. The American version of Shark Tank became extremely popular. Over 30 countries have produced local versions of the show, such as Canada, Brazil, Australia, France, India, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom, with 14 seasons to date.
