How to protect your skin for Holi

Holi, the festival of colors, is a joyous occasion that is celebrated with great enthusiasm. People gather at this time to dance, play games, and spread colors and water on each other, and have fun. However, while Holi is a fun-filled event, it can also be harsh on your skin. The colors used during the festival can cause skin irritation, dryness, and even rashes. Here are some tips on how to prep and protect your skin for Holi:

Moisturize your skin

Before stepping out to play Holi, make sure to moisturize your skin well. This will create a barrier between your skin and the colors, preventing them from seeping into your pores and causing damage. Employ a moisturizer of high quality that is suitable for your skin type.

Apply oil to your hair

To protect your hair from the colors, apply a generous amount of oil to your hair and scalp. Coconut oil or olive oil works well for this purpose. This will not only protect your hair from damage but also make it easier to wash off the colors later.

Cover your skin

One of the best ways to protect your skin during Holi is to cover it up as much as possible. Wear full-sleeved clothes and pants to protect your arms and legs. You can also wear a scarf or bandana to cover your face and neck.

Use organic colors

While traditional Holi colors are made from chemicals, there are now many organic and natural colors available in the market. These colors are made from natural ingredients like turmeric, beetroot, and henna and are much gentler on your skin. Look for organic colors when shopping for Holi colors and you can even make them on your own at home.

Protect your eyes

The colors used during Holi can also cause irritation and damage to your eyes. Wear sunglasses or protective eyewear to protect your eyes from the colors.

Rinse off immediately

As soon as you finish playing Holi, head straight to the shower to rinse off the colors. Use a gentle soap or body wash to remove the colors from your skin. Using hot water might further dry out your skin, so avoid doing so.
