‘Adani’s brother…’: Cong asks government three questions; ‘Can’t say hum Adani ke hain kaun’
Bringing up the case of Vinod Adani, Gautam Adani’s brother, who was named in the Panama Papers and the Pandora Papers, the Congress asked the government on Sunday what had happened to its strong stance against economic offenders, which it had articulated on several platforms. During the Adani crisis, the Congress posed three questions to the government, saying, “You and your government cannot hide from — saying Hum Adani ke Hain Kaun.”
In the midst of the ongoing political squabble, the Congress asked on Sunday why no central agency had yet to investigate the allegations against the Adani Group, despite the fact that Vinod Adani, Gautam Adani’s brother, was named in the Panama Papers and the Pandora Papers as someone who operates offshore entities in the Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands.
“Vinod Adani is accused of ‘brazen stock manipulation’ and ‘accounting fraud’ through a vast network of offshore shell companies. What does the fact that a well-known business entity is facing serious allegations say about the quality and sincerity of your investigations?” Congress stated.
“What steps, if any, have been taken to investigate the serious allegations levelled against the Adani Group over the years? Is there any chance of a fair and impartial investigation under your supervision?” — This is the Congress’s second question.
“How does one of India’s largest business groups, that has been allowed to construct monopolies in airports and seaports, escaped serious scrutiny for so long despite frequent allegations? For far less, other business groups have been harassed and raided. Was the Adani Group essential to a regime that has profited for years from ‘anti-corruption’ rhetoric?” The third question is.
